Endangered Species Blog

Dear Mom,

I really, really miss you.  I miss our original home of Arizona, but ever since they took me away to the Zion National Park, it is really lonely.  I'm stuck in the same cage as this other Condor.  She is a real jerk.  She is always stealing my food and even the pigeons on the street dislike her.  Her name is Becky.  The only birds who do like her are the parrots.  Sadly, she finds them annoying.  I'm betting money that it is because she has to bear the torture of hearing her 'caws.'

I hope you're doing okay.  I think I'm pretty lucky because my other friends left the Park to have some freedom and they were all poached and poisoned.  Luckily, I'm following their orders, eating good, cawing for the visitors and I'm getting a little bit bigger every day.  My wingspan is about 8 feet across now and I weigh approximately 24 pounds.

How are you doing?  We've been separated for a solid year now...  How are you doing with my brothers and sisters?  Are they being a bother?  Is getting food difficult?  Sometimes, I think that our long lifespan of sixty years might actually be a bad thing in this situation.  Do you think it might be easier for you to have passed already so that life would be easier?  One day, when I'm a bigger bird, I'm taking an adventure from the Park all the way to Arizona and taking you with me to the park.  It's pretty nice here, you get fed and attention.  I hope to see you in the following months, at most a year.

Sincerely,
Perky
Here's a picture of me flying!  I'm getting faster and faster everyday!
